Fruit and Vegetable Carvings
Fruit and Vegetable carving is a venerable tradition witch has been passed down from ancient times. This tradition craft has
developed in the places of Kings since the Sukhothai Period over 700 years ago.
During the First Reign of the Bangkok Period, His Majesty King Rama 1 the Great held a fruit and vegetable carving competition at
the festival of the twelfth lunar month
The purpose of fruit and vegetable carving is to make food more attractive, more appetizing.
Decorating fresh well formed, and collar full fruits and vegetables through artistic carving is by no means difficult: all it takes is
concentration. Although food-garnishing techniques became more and more refined over the years, it was only very recently that
fruit and vegetable carving made a real breakthrough. But why did such impressive decorations appear on the table so early in
history, at a time when most people had to struggle to obtain the bare necessities of life?
The reason for the popularity of fruit and vegetable carving may be found not only in modern affluence, but also in the need to
preserve national identity. Since western cuisine has become more and more popular in Japan and China, more attention is also
being given to the garnishing of national dishes in order to enhance the status of national cuisine, thereby increasing its
popularity. Perhaps the West has thus even made a significant contribution to the promotion of the Asian art of food Garnishing.
